| Q. What is Genocide Posters Campaign
all about?
A. We hope to promote the recognition of Armenian genocide
worldwide through series of art posters targeting high-density-area
urban audiences, participatation in events which take place
annualy around the world in April 24th.
Q. Who started the campaign and when?
A. The original idea, design of the website and administration
of the project by Ruben Malayan. The project was initiated
in 2002.
Q. How many people have participated and how many
more do you expect to join you in this campaign?
A. Currently there are 14 designers participating. We are
doing our best to reach more people and find more assistance,
both in financial and organizational aspects.
Q. How can those interested take part in this project?
A. There are few ways to take part in our project. First
and foremost, those individuals (Armenians or non Armenians)
who have professional graphic design skills should participate
and design a poster or number of posters for the project.
Since poster design requires exceptional skills, conceptual
thinking and good copyright, it takes a specific person to
design a successful poster. In professional aspect, this project
is set on a high standard. We won't settle for anything else
than an art work- professional in it's concept and execution.
The posters should not tell the obvious- instead we original
concepts which would try to make contact with the viewers
minds and make them think, or perhaps feel what it's about.
For non designers there are various tasks, such as fund raising
in their local community to sponsor the publishing of the
posters and distribution of them among the Armenian communities
in the area, the organization of participation of the posters
in events which will take place in coming April 24. The original
concept also involved petition of the local city councils
for the permission to hang the posters on the focal points
in the city on the city property, but at this point we haven't
found the network of people to accomplish this task.
Q. How can those interested in project contact you?
A. Project can be contacted via email - contact@armeniangenocideposters.org
Q. How much media exposure did the Genocide Posters
Campaign had?
A. Among the Armenian media: Asbarez, Groong and AZG (Armenian
Daily) published the press releases and the announcement of
the project was also made in Dutch Reformatorish Dagblad daily
newspaper. An item on the project was filmed and broadcasted
on local Amsterdam TV channel as well.
Q. Are there any sources financially supporting this
campaign or is there no need for such support?
A. We do need to raise funds to make this project happen.
In total the budget of this project amounts to $3.000. All
the data regarding funds is openly posted on the website and
is fully transparent.
Conclusion
This is our chance to make ourselves heard, develop a project
which would leave a mark in people's minds, in our view, is
important for the future of our nation. It is not directed
against Turkish people, it is there to tell them the true
story of Armenian Genocide. We hope that it will also stimulate
the cultivation and encouragement of Armenian art, history
and since posters can be also informative- education around
the world.
